Firefox 3.0 was released today. I have been using this browser since version 0.3, when it was known as Phoenix. With each release it has gotten better and better, but this version is just simply awesome. As a mac user, I finally feel that I have an outright choice as my default browser - with many to choose from [Firefox, Camino, Safari & other 'Webkit' flavors.]

The new browser is so zippy. Everything feels a lot more fluid. The memory usage has been optimized greatly. The new UI/GFX layer is stunning. The new location bar makes it a lot easier to visit frequently checked sites. The bookmark management (Places) leaves little to be desired.

The Mozilla team is attempting to break a world record for the most software downloads in a single 24 hour period. As of 18:00 PDT on June 17th, Firefox 3 has been downloaded more than 2.6 million times.

GOOOOOO GET FIREFOX!

I should be in Austin right now at South by Southwest, but I was not able to make it this year. I have been the past two years and am pretty bummed that we couldn’t go. I was really looking forward to going down there with a few of my colleagues that have not been before. Ah well.

I miss you Austin. Maybe next year… :(

Wow. What a fun trip. I had an absolute BLAST in Austin this year. I arrived last Thursday without issue. Checked into the hotel and unpacked. Then I went and got some lunch and a few beers.

Friday was check-in day. We had to stand in line for a bit to get our badges and directories. We also got a goody bag! Most of it was junk but there was some cool stuff in there. We ate some BBQ at the “Iron Works” which was damn good. MMM Briskett!

The conference began Saturday. Panels would go almost all day, every day until Tuesday. Panel topics ranged from general WWW stuff, to gaming, to film, to online media, to mobile WWW, and so much more. At the end of each day a series of parties would be planned. You pretty much could pick and choose where you wanted to go. It was cool to network and hang out with some of the heads that were in town.

Check out some pix from my trip!

Coming home was fun! We had to touch down in Richmond to re-fuel the plane. It seems we would not have made it if we didn’t stop. That was kinda fun. Either way, we got home safely! I was so happy to see the kittens and my bed! MMM.

Paige gave me a present upon my arrival. A very thoughtful “collage” made from the latest Chimaira cd album booklet. I like it a lot! Check it out!
